As its name indicates, SwiftView it’s a simple and quick multi-format image viewer. It covers a wide range of formats, including the followings: PCL 5, PCL 6, color PCL 6, PCL 4, HPGL, HPGL/2, TEXT, TIFF, JPEG, CALS G4, and PCX/DCX. It’s good to mention, just in case you don’t know, that PCL is the format of the data sent to HP LaserJet or compatible printers. On the other hand, HPGL is the format of the data sent to HP-compatible plotters. Since the huge amount of HP Laser Jet printers plus compatibles, PCL has become in the most common print format giving it a great importance.
As its slogan promise, SwiftView is all about fast and accurate viewing and printing. So, how does it manage to keep this promise to users? Regarding accuracy, one important aspect is that what SwiftView displays is the actual data stream sent to print and no some conversion of it. That provides an inherent accuracy. Regarding the fast aspect it depends on two aspects: document transfer speed and display speed. In those two aspects SwiftView is remarkable. It’s capable of directly reading zipped PCL and HPGL files, saving lots of time of decompression and saving tons of disk space (the compression rates vary from 3x to 10x).
Anything that can be viewed can be printed using SwiftView. You can select a range of pages to print, one single page or, what is quite unique, a rectangular section of a page.
When you take a look at the application, you could be surprised by its extreme simplicity. Well, that’s give a precise idea of it, it’s as simple to use as it looks. The setup file you have to download is about 2.3 Mb and the installation requires only one click and maybe a few seconds of your time. Regarding the interface, it lacks of menus because you can do everything you need from only 10 buttons on the toolbar. This is great because you won’t have to spend lots of time learning how to use this tool.
Another intelligent aspect of this tool is that it supports native language. If you use an OS in one of the following languages, SwiftView automatically will inherit that language: Dutch, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Furthermore, all program messages can be translated to other language by editing a text file.
